He is also a “keen guitarist” in the band 12 Degrees South, which describes itself as an “original rock and punk and blues band” from Darwin.
Mr Best, who cites his despondency with the current state of both major parties as his motivation to run for politics, is Territory Alliance’s second candidate for Wanguri after original candidate David Ridley quit the race citing family and work reasons.
“Private enterprise is the beating heart of any successful economy,” Mr Best said. “I feel that this entire sector has been overlooked for the past eight years. I feel that I have the energy and passion for such a task.”
George Laughton will run for Territory Alliance in the seat of Arafura, which is currently held by NT Labor’s Lawrence Costa.
Mr Laughton, a service technician in the electricity and energy sector, also has qualifications in community development.
“I am a strong, determined and focused Saltwater and Freshwater man from my Mother’s side and a proud committed Desert and Black Soil Plains man from my Father’s side,” he said. “I love my cultures and the Territory with all of my heart and soul.
“I believe in combining mainstream education and cultural education with training and development through schooling and Vet.”
CLP’s candidates in Wanguri and Arafura are Jed Hansen and Gibson Illortaminni respectively.
