AGED transportable classrooms at Leanyer Primary School will be replaced with four general learning areas and a teachers’ space.
Territory-owned construction company, C&R Constructions, has been awarded a $1.68m contract to build the new classrooms.
Demolition of the old classrooms is now complete and earthworks have started in preparation for building works.
The project is scheduled for completion later this year.
Ashford Architects, also a Territory company, was awarded the design tender in March last year.
Leanyer Primary School Principal Leah Crockford said the new classrooms and teachers’ space would be positive additions to the school and provide students with further enhanced learning spaces.
“We want our students to have access to the very best amenities and are very excited to see the works take shape,” Ms Crockford said.

Education Minister Lauren Moss said the new area at Leanyer Primary School was part of the NT government’s plan to provide contemporary learning environments in schools across the Territory.
“We know that quality learning spaces lead to improved educational outcomes and these new classrooms and teachers’ space will be an asset to the school,” Ms Moss said.
