THE mystery buyer of the infamous “Chinatown hole in the ground” in Mitchell Street has been revealed.

Documents from the Land Titles Office show the owner of the 68 Mitchell St, Lot 7587 is Olive Cook Pty Ltd, according to ABC Radio.

The company is reportedly owned by Darwin businessman Simon Christopher Peters who has a registered address in Marrara.

The lot, which once carried a $23 million price tag, sold for just $3.75 million.

The sale has created a buzz of excitement because for almost 20 years the current 5630sq m site alongside the defunct BCC Cinemas Darwin, has been nothing more than a boarded up, overgrown hole in the ground.

But Colliers International, who settled last week, did not reveal who the new owner was or what Mr Peters’ plans for the site are.
