NT government’s Territory Check In app used more than 700,000 times since launch

TERRITORIANS have taken to checking in when going out as part of the NT’s bid to stop a coronavirus outbreak, with the Territory Check In app having been used hundreds of thousands of times since its launch.

TERRITORIANS have taken to checking in when going out as part of the NT’s bid to stop a coronavirus outbreak.

In six weeks the Territory Check In app has been used 727,000 times at 2600 NT venues.

Hot Tamale had one of the highest number of check-ins so far, having had 8000 people scanning the QR code to check in and dine at the Waterfront venue.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner said it was great to see so many people adhere to the new requirements when heading out.

“It is critical that we never give coronavirus a headstart. There is a chance that coronavirus will come to the Territory, we’re doing everything we can to reduce the risk, but we know that one day coronavirus may be here,” he said.

“If it is here, we’re gonna make sure it gets as small a headstart as possible.

“Contact tracing, QR codes, checking in, is a crucial part of making sure if we have anything like Brisbane has just had, our lockdown is as short and sharp as possible.”

Hot Tamale owner David Robinson said his staff had done an amazing job in adapting to the new requirements, with a front of house staff member ensuring people check-in before being seated.

“There’s always going to be the one or two per cent that gets through but I think my team is doing a really good job of actually doing what we need to do,” he said.

“We’re fully behind it as a team, we understand the importance of it and, you know, (are) really supportive of the contract tracing and what it means for us up here.”
