Search continues for suspects involved in off-duty cops attack

July 15: Territory police say the search for the people who allegedly assaulted four off duty cops in Alice Springs is “proving difficult” and are again appealing to members of the public for more information.

Northern Territory police superintendent Lee Morgan said the investigation into the assault of the officers on Sunday, July 7 is still ongoing.

“While identifying those involved is proving difficult, we are getting closer to establishing who was involved,” he said.

“Once we have confirmed who the offenders are it is likely arrests will take place.

“We continue to call for people to come forward with any information they may have in relation to this matter.”

The assault on the four off-duty cops – three of which were female – saw two officers have their items stolen, such as their diamond ring, phone and bag, according to Chris Hopper, the father and husband of two of the officers.

He said they were stomped on, kicked and punched while they were on the ground, breaking his daughter’s nose.

The incident was one of many in a horror weekend for police – where another officer was ran over in an unrelated incident – which led to the town’s second curfew being enacted.
