A 39-year-old woman has been charged after driving more than three times the legal limit in Alice Springs.

On Sunday, members of the Territory Road Policing Division stopped a Toyota Station Wagon to conduct a breath test on South Terrace in Alice Springs.

The 39-year-old woman returned a breath analysis of 0.153 – more than three times the legal limit.

The driver was taken into custody and charged with high range drink driving, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.

She was released on bail and will next face Alice Springs Local Court on August 14.

Southern Road Policing Acting Senior Sergeant Conan Robertson slammed the incident.

“NT Police are committed to removing intoxicated drivers from our roads,” he said.

“This incident demonstrates that this type of offending can occur at any hour of the day, even in the morning – just because you have had a sleep does not mean that you are sober and safe to drive a vehicle.”

Kids steal $4.5k from servo, police allege

Three children have been arrested after they allegedly stole fuel and several thousand dollars worth of cash in Alice Springs.

Southern Watch Commander Lee Yates said the children allegedly arrived at the BP on the Stuart Hwy in a stolen vehicle shortly before 8.30pm Sunday.

Sergeant Yates said the trio allegedly stole some fuel but the service station staff denied further access to the resource.

He alleged the children then smashed the building’s glass panels while both female staff members locked themselves in the back room.

Sergeant Yates said the children allegedly stole two cash drawers containing about $4500 and caused more than $3000 worth of damage to the building.

He said the group was later arrested, with two remaining in custody and one taken to the care of a responsible adult.

‘Horrible’ 72 hours for police in Red Centre as officers attacked, run over

July 7: The Northern Territory police minister has labelled the weekend “horrible” for police, as four off duty cops were allegedly bashed and one run over in another separate incident.

Speaking to media on Sunday, Brent Potter revealed more details about the horror weekend for police in Alice Springs.

Mr Potter revealed that two of the four off-duty police who were allegedly assaulted and robbed during the night were fresh constables who had graduated from the police academy on June 29.

Police revealed this afternoon that the four officers – three women and a male – were allegedly assaulted by “about 20 youths” at 2.15am this morning.

Police said the alleged assault happened on the Todd River walkway near Stott Terrace as the officers were walking to their Barrett Drive Hotel.

“It’s a horrible start for those two probationary officers that hadn’t even worked at first shift yet,” Mr Potter said.

Mr Potter also revealed more details about an incident that occurred on Saturday where a police is alleged to have been run over attempting an arrest in Alice Springs.

The officer had “identified an intoxicated person hopping into a vehicle as they vacated one of the licensed premises”, according to Mr Potter, who said the person behind the wheel attempted to run the officer over.

“It’s lucky that officer wasn’t hurt more, they’ve just come out of surgery, I believe, for some of their injuries,” he said.

“That could have been a really horrible outcome for that member, and put simply, that’s criminal as well. ”

Police were also responding to a stabbing on the Alice Springs Town Council lawns, according to Mr Potter, who said one lady had stabbed another.

The stabbed lady had been taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries with other person arrested.

“I think we’ve seen a pretty horrible 72 hours from a relatively quiet show period,” Mr Potter said.

“We got plenty officers that we can deploy in Alice Springs if we need to.”
