Punters from far and wide have descended on the 65th edition of the Red Centre capital’s annual show, in what some attendees called the “best show in years”, the organisers say.
Around 22,000 people attended the 2024 Alice Springs Show, according to Central Australian Show Society president Andrew Barrett, who called the event an amazing couple of days.
“Lots of people said it was the best showing years, so that’s got us pretty chuffed this morning while we’re packing up,” he said.
This year’s event had plenty on offer for young and old – alongside some new events, such as the dachs-egg race.
“I have heard from all reports that it was an absolutely amazing event, and people could not believe that there’s that many dachshunds in Alice Springs,” Mr Barrett said.
Other events included the celebrity saw-off, which saw Country Liberal Party pollies face off against Labor pollies.
Red Centre multiculturalism was well and truly on show, with revellers coming from all corners to catch some of this years action.
Brazilians Sara Schwarz, Thaís Bittar, and Aline Fortes said it was their first time at the show and they loved it.
They said they had tried their hand at a couple of games – but were yet to have any luck.
Sri Lankan expats Prabath Dasanayake and Dilani Hettiarachchi said their favourite ride was the ‘crazy dance’.
Ms Hettiarachchi said the exhibits were also incredible.
The rides also proved a hit with Alice locals Debra Gray, Brendon Inkamala and Lisa Cubillo-Tomlins, who also gave a shout out to the great grub at the show.
Cyrus Bloomfield, Riewoldt Ross, and Jeremiah Ross also travelled down from Mount Eaglebeak and Ampilatwatja.
But while some had come down for the show, for others it was part of a brief stay in Alice Springs before moving on for work.
Jesse Kalic picked up a plant from the show to take with her to her new job, which she said will be a couple of hours north of Alice Springs.
