Police investigate alleged assault, handbag theft near Jape Homemaker Village
A woman has been “knocked unconscious” after two kids allegedly assaulted her outside the Jape Homemaker Village.
NT Police northern watch commander Richard Howie said the 32-year-old was walking across Bagot Rd with a friend when two girls allegedly confronted the pair at 7.20pm on Sunday.
“The youths (allegedly) attempted to steal one of the ladies’ handbags and a bit of a struggle happened,” he said.
“The ladies were (allegedly) assaulted and the youths left the area.”
Police said the kids allegedly knocked the woman to the ground and repeatedly kicked her in the head.
They said the kids allegedly stole her phone before fleeing.
Sergeant Howie said the woman was “knocked unconscious” and was now receiving treatment at Royal Darwin Hospital.
He said the children had not been identified and called on Territorians to come forward with any footage or knowledge they may have of the incident.
“We’re pretty confident that once we get started looking at other footage and different things that we have in the area, we’ll probably get some descriptions out,” he said.
Police are looking for two girls between 13 and 16 years old.
Detectives from the Serious Crime Squad are investigating and have called for relevant footage from 7pm-7.40pm Sunday.
In an unrelated incident, Sergeant Howie said a crime scene had been established at a Frances Bay Dr dock point following a vehicle fire.
“It’s a bit of an odd one and there’s probably something going on there,” he said.
He said the blaze was reported shortly before 5am Monday.
Sergeant Howie said the fire had been extinguished and investigations would continue throughout the morning.
