“It’s early days, we’ve got Strike Force Trident investigating,” Sergeant Woodcock said.
“We’ve still got information coming in and a lot of investigation avenues to work through this morning.”
Six arrested after ‘frightening’ trip on ferry
NT Police has launched multiple investigations after an alleged hit and run, crime spree and a “frightening” ferry trip were reported in one night.
Northern Watch Commander Tanya Woodcock said a 37-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car in Malak but the driver did not stop to help her.
Sergeant Woodcock said the woman survived the crash on Mueller Rd and was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life threatening injuries about 8pm Wednesday.
“There were some people who stopped immediately to help the lady but we are certainly appealing to anyone who saw that event,” she said.
In an unrelated incident, Sergeant Woodcock said several people allegedly broke into a number of residential properties in Katherine East and an occupied hotel room.
Police said a group of four children allegedly tried to enter a Sandalwood Cr home before the occupant confronted them at 9.30pm.
They said the same group allegedly broke into residences on Gregory Ct and Martin Tce.
Police said the group allegedly stole personal items and caused damage.
They said the kids allegedly threatened residents of a De Julia Ct with an edged weapon at about 11.20pm.
Police said a man threatened two women staying in a Cyprus St hotel and stole a wallet at 2.45am.
“Understandably, some of them (the victims) were very upset and for some of them it was very early in the morning as well,” Sergeant Woodcock said.
“We’ve got an investigation and we’ll be going pretty hard on that today (Thursday).”
No arrests have been made in relation to the alleged hit and run or crime spree.
And a “very frightening” unrelated incident on a boat trip across Darwin Harbour was also reported to police.
Sergeant Woodcock said a group of 10 people boarded the Cullen Bay ferry to Belyuen about 5pm.
She said the group allegedly became “disorderly”, started throwing bottles at other passengers and smashed a window.
Six people were arrested.
“They were released from custody overnight with infringements for disorderly behaviour,” she said.
“We’re still gathering evidence in relation to criminal acts.”
Cars allegedly damaged and stolen near social hotspot
A man who allegedly damaged a car outside the Darwin Bowls Club and stole a second car when the driver pulled over has been arrested.
NT Police Northern Watch Commander Greg Rowe said the man in his 20s was allegedly intoxicated and “damaging a passing car” about 7.25pm on Sunday.
“When the adult male in the vehicle stopped his vehicle, he was (allegedly) assaulted by the offender,” Sergeant Rowe said.
Sergeant Rowe said a second driver – a woman in her late 20s – pulled over at the scene.
“The (alleged) offender then entered that vehicle causing the adult female to flee her vehicle,” he said.
“The (alleged) offender then stole the vehicle.”
Sergeant Rowe said extensive police patrols located the alleged offender about 8pm and he was arrested.
He said police expected to lay charges against the man on Monday.
Alleged meth-fuelled motorbike stunt clocks almost 200km/h
NT Police have said a motorbike rider was lucky he “didn’t kill themselves” when he was caught allegedly speeding through Coolalinga while also allegedly high on meth and weed.
Police said the 32-year-old man was allegedly spotted doing 192km/h through the Stuart Hwy’s 80km/h speed limit at 12.30pm on Saturday.
They said the man was riding a black Suzuki motorbike when he was pulled over near the intersection of Virginia Rd.
Police said the man allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine and cannabis.
Commander Daniel Bacon said the man’s alleged “reckless behaviour” put all road users at risk.
“It was simply dumb luck that this individual didn’t kill themselves, another motorist or a pedestrian, driving in this manner while (allegedly) intoxicated,” he said.
“Currently the lives lost on Territory roads sits at seven as compared to 31 this time last year.
“Police are urging all motorists to be aware of their surroundings, slow down and to never drive while under the influence, it’s simply not worth it.”
The man was arrested and charged with driving at a speed and manner dangerous to the public and driving with a prohibited drug in his body.
Police said the man would front the Darwin Local Court on August 10.
