Police appeal for witnesses after car fire ‘linked’ with disturbance in Alice Springs

Police say the vehicle went up in flames about 7pm on Friday, with a man taken to hospital with head injuries ‘as a result of these incidents’.

May 25: Police in Alice Springs are appealing for information from the public after a car was set on fire in Larapinta following a disturbance in Gillen which investigators believe are linked.

An NT Police spokeswoman said the vehicle went up in flames about 7pm on Friday, with a man taken to hospital with head injuries “as a result of these incidents”.

Detectives from the regional crime squad are investigating both occurrences and urge anyone with any information to call police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

May 24: Police say a woman has “suffered minor injuries” after trying to stop two youths from stealing her wallet.

Police said the incident on Bath Street in Alice Springs was reported about 5.45pm on May 23.

“Police received reports of two female youths allegedly stealing a woman’s wallet in a car park,” they said.

“When the victim approached the offenders to return the item, they allegedly assaulted her before fleeing the scene.”

The victim did not require medical attention.

Police said Strike Force Viper were investigating.

They urge anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area to contact police on 131 444 and quote reference NTP2400051073.

Police arrest, charge four people after alleged drug busts, seize $322k

May 21: Four people have been arrested and more than $320,000 seized after police intercepted alleged drug suppliers.

An NT Police spokesman said a 31-year-old man and 35-year-old woman were arrested near Tennant Creek after their car was stopped because investigators believed the vehicle to be involved in commercial drug supply.

The spokesman said the white Toyota Prado had been travelling south towards Alice Springs on Thursday.

He said police allegedly seized $310,000 in cash and charged the pair with supplying a commercial quantity of a schedule two drug and possessing tainted property.

The spokesman alleged the man was later found to have been in Australia illegally since 2018.

He said police then searched a Darwin residence where they allegedly found a commercial quantity of cannabis and $12,000 in cash.

The spokesman said a 32-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were arrested and charged with supplying a commercial quantity of a schedule two drug and possessing tainted property.

Detective Superintendent Lee Morgan said the supply of illicit substances caused significant harm through health, financial, and societal outcomes.

“Police have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to the supply and distribution of illegal substance and criminals should note it’s only a matter of time until you are caught,” he said.

Ute used in ram raid, alcohol theft

May 21: A group of people are on the run after they allegedly stole a ute and used it to ram raid an Alice Springs business.

An NT Police spokesman said the white Ford Ranger was used to target a property on Flynn Dr, Gillen at 2.30am Tuesday.

The spokesman said the people allegedly stole alcohol and fled in the ute.

He said the ute was found abandoned a short time later.

The spokesman said Strike Force Viper were investigating and believed the vehicle was stolen from another business on Coulthard Ct.

He urged anyone with information to contact police and quote job number 2400050095.

Police investigate string of burglaries

May 21: Six businesses have been targeted in a string of alleged Alice Springs burglaries on Sunday night.

An NT Police spokesman said the businesses on the Stuart Hwy, Ulpaya Rd, Coulthard Ct, Brown St, and Sargent St were reported between 5pm Sunday and 1.30am Monday.

The spokesman said Strike Force Viper and general duties were deployed to investigate and one stolen vehicle had been recovered.

He said investigations were ongoing and called for anyone with CCTV footage or information to contact police on 131 444.
