THREE vehicles have been involved in a serious, high speed crash at a Stuart Hwy intersection in the Darwin rural area overnight.
The crash happened when a blue Hyundai hatchback turned into the path of a Blue Toyota Camry sedan at the intersection of the Stuart Highway and Old Bynoe Road about 7.40pm, according to NT Police.
The sedan struck the Hyundai from behind causing the hatchback to spin around, Acting Senior Sergeant Mick Fields told ABC radio.
A third vehicle — a white Toyota Hilux ute driving south on the Stuart Highway — then collided with the Toyota Camry, Act Sen Sgt Fields said.
Police, fire and ambulance services were all called to the scene to deal with the aftermath of the accident.
The drivers of the Hyundai and Hilux were taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries, Act Sen Sgt Fields said.
The accident blocked one lane of the Stuart highway and Old Bynoe Road before they were eventually cleared.
All drivers returned zero blood alcohol readings and all three vehicles were extensively damaged, Act Sen Sgt Fields said.
The matter is under investigation by the Adelaide River Police.
