The low fence along the picturesque pathways provides some form of safety without spoiling the view.
The fact that people are ignoring this deterrent should spark the council in to action.
The sheer, rocky cliff drop off the Esplanade is not obvious from the top.
Naturally, humans are curious people and that curiosity, or simply the unknown, has led two people to take no notice of the small fence.
Signs warning people about the potential dangers of going past the fence would be a good start.

Given one person is dead and the other is seriously injured, it’s not the time to simply do nothing.
There’s no need for a barbed wire fence that blocks that iconic Darwin sunset and incredible water view.
But two incidents within a week indicates some sort of warning needs to be erected.
It’s a small price to pay to save other families and friends from the trauma of having a loved one killed or injured because they’ve made the fateful mistake of crossing a small, easy to scale fence.
