THE third and final round of the Northern Territory government’s highly popular tourism voucher scheme has gone live and as expected Territorians hungry for a bargain wanted more of the action.
Worth more than $5m, the vouchers are a windfall for the tourism and hospitality sector.

The vouchers have not only helped keep the cash tills of Territory businesses ringing, but more Territorians than ever have taken the time to enjoy the best of what is on offer in their own backyard.
Bars, clubs, hotels, restaurants and tourist locations have reported above average trade for the normally quiet wet season. Many say much of the business was from stimulus vouchers from councils and the NT government.
With a return on investment of $2.79 for every government dollar spent, the stimulus is one of the most popular coronavirus stimulus measures in the NT thus far.

During the second round of the scheme the waitlist at one stage was more than 25,000 people.
It was always going to be that way and this newspaper said so over and over again when we urged the NT government to introduce the scheme.
You have to give something to get something. It is one thing to spend a small fortune advertising the Territory as a great place to live and holiday.
The voucher scheme uptake proves how much better it is when you dangle the right carrot in front of people.
