CHROMING, which is the inhaling of volatile substances, is a destructive and dangerous activity that has lifelong consequences on the substance abuser.
People who inhale volatile substances are at risk of permanent brain and lung damage or even death.
Police and other agencies have worked collaboratively with businesses and residents with statistics over the last three years showing a reduction of this kind of harm in our community.
Their work is helping.

We’ve seen a steady decline of offences of chroming across most of the NT.
Police are working with the Health Department, Territory Families and other agencies to address this problem, which is primarily an activity done by children.
So far this year, cops have made referrals 17 times to support agencies regarding incidents of chroming.
With recent reports of youths chroming in the northern suburbs, particularly Karama, we as a community should also do what we can to help stop it in its tracks.
