DARWIN Olympic fans, you cannot embarrass the NT footballing community at next week’s showpiece FFA Cup match with your shocking behaviour.

Revelations of supporters confronting match officials and waiting for opposition players in the car park are a throw back to the dark days for football.

Days that were stamped out with the creation of the A-League. The abusive behaviour simply cannot be repeated on the national stage when the club take on Edgeworth FC on Wednesday.

OPINION: Olympic supporters can’t embarrass NT in FFA Cup

The match will be broadcast by Fox Sports and the opponents include former Central Coast Mariners striker Daniel McBreen, who has a prominent role in the broadcaster’s coverage of the code.

Not only will the match have a national audience it has attracted crowds of more than 3000 including children and families in the past.

Olympic FC officials must ensure their supporters show their passion and support for their side in a positive way.

The derbies between Olympic and their fierce rivals Hellenic are among the must see matches in the Darwin competition.

The atmosphere created by the fans are part of the reason these games are so popular within the football community.

But any repeat of the scenes from the match against the Mindil Aces would simply be stain on the game and smear the reputation of NT football.

Officials need to step in and tell the supporters involved to not attend the FFA Cup match.

Referees and linesman are not verbal punching bags simply their to be abused at the leisure of supporters.
