UFOS have returned to the rural area, according to independent MLA Gerry Wood.

Dawn was just breaking on Wednesday morning when Mr Wood spotted a white light, about the brightness of a star, heading north from Virginia towards Howard Springs.

“When it got close to what I think would have been Coolalinga it veered off and went east until I couldn’t see it anymore because the (dawn) light was too bright to see where it went,” he said.

The object was flying at about the same height of a light aircraft but made no noise and had no navigational lights, he said.

“The only thing I could think it could be was someone’s drone, but who would be up at 6.15 in the morning flying a drone?”

He said it was “definitely” a UFO though couldn’t be sure it was extraterrestrial in origin.

He rated the encounter a 10 out of five on the Gerry-meter — the credibility scale named after him in honour of his standing as the Territory’s most trustworthy politician.

Despite Mr Wood’s conviction, the NT News has determined the sighting rates 3.5 Gerrys due to the lack of other witnesses or photographic evidence.
