The NT News first introduced the rating system in early 2010, when self-confessed UFO aficionado and independent Member for Nelson, Gerry “Kingmaker “ Wood, was the Territory’s most powerful politician.

Each UFO reported in the NT News was thereafter given a credibility rating on the Gerrymeter scale, named in honour of Mr Wood, who has regularly reported seeing UFOs flying over his electorate in Darwin’s rural area over the years.
