The Territory’s only female brewer has hit the ground running and is ready to deliver a fresh frothy to beer-lovers across the Top End.

Beaver Brewery assistant brewer Nayana Patmore said being a pioneer of the industry was not without its challenges but it was an enjoyable career.

“It’s such a fun and creative job,” she said.

“Women are just as capable of being successful in brewing and there should be nothing holding you back from doing that if that’s what you want to do.

“I’m sure that anyone who wants to get into it would be welcomed with a lot of support.”

Ms Patmore took on the assistant brewer role in March and has not looked back.

“I started by working behind the bar, just a casual job at Beaver Brewery, and eventually I moved to Melbourne,” she said.

“I decided that’s what I wanted to continue doing and I realised that the opportunity that I had to actually learn brewing and become a brewer was back up here.”

Ms Patmore has since created her own beer using a hops blend from the Pink Boots Society.

Territorians can get their first taste of the Ladybug Session XPA brew from 2pm Saturday, August 26.

Ms Patmore said her lovingly crafted blend would raise money for the Pink Boots Society in thanks for the community and support they have given her.

“They’re an organisation to support women an non-binary people in the brewing industry,” she said.

“They raise money for education through scholarships and different webinars and online formats that you can get involved in and learn more about the brews.”

She said the charity was also a wonderful community for her as NT’s only female brewer.

Ms Patmore said she could count on her male co-workers for support but it was also nice to stay connected to women in the industry through the Pink Boots Society.

“They do a lot in terms of raising money and supporting women in general in the brewing industry,” she said.
