IF YOU’VE ever needed an excuse to down a cold one then here it is.

Beaver Brewery is the newest brewery in town, pouring three types of beers.

The beers are being sold at Lola’s Pergola, Six Tanks and The Precinct.

They are the third craft beer brewery to open in Darwin.

Chris Brown and his family decided to open up the craft beer brewery after looking for a sea change.

After 15 years in the army Mr Brown decided it was time to cut back and enjoy life a bit more.

“I’ve home brewed for a fair while about 15 years and over that time I’ve brewed hundreds of recipes and I’ve found ones I do like,” he said.

“We’ve been able to scale it up and produce it in quantity.”

Since November they have been serving up an American style pale ale, an Australian lager and an American brown ale.

In a touching tribute each of the beers have been named after family members.

At the moment Mr Brown is producing about 600l of liquid gold a week.

For those that don’t like the typical beer he is also in the process of creating a ginger beer.

The brewery isn’t yet open to the public but the hopes to be able to open up a cellar door where people can come and sample his products straight from the keg.
