Territorians are being encouraged to nominate small businesses ahead of Australia’s peak tourism award event.
From Monday, nominations for the prestigious 2024 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Awards are open, with the winners set for a place at the Australian Tourism Awards.
Tourism and Hospitality Minister Joel Bowden called on Territorians to support eligible operators.
“Every tourism operator in the Territory who is proud of their spectacular product should nominate for a 2024 Brolga Award,” he said.
“The Brolga Awards are about recognising and celebrating the businesses that support 16,300 direct jobs and contribute $2.2 billion to the Territory’s economy – showing massive growth in the past two years.”
Darwin hosted the 2023 Australian Tourism Awards, in which host venue Darwin Convention Centre and Katherine Outback Experience were announced as Gold winners in their respective categories.
Katherine Outback Experience was also awarded bronze in a separate category, alongside Photographic Safaris, Darwin Festival, and NT Bird Specialists.
Mr Bowden said he believed there was more Territorian talent yet to be identified on the national stage.
“I know there’s even more world-class talent in the Territory waiting to be recognised, so proud tourism operators take the first step and nominate today,” he said.
“Tourism is a key economic driver for the Territory, with 1575 new direct tourism jobs for Territory workers in 2022-23 – and the Territory Labor government will continue to invest in our booming tourism industry.”
Categories for the 37th Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Awards include Tourism Attractions, Business Event Venues, Tourism Restaurants and Catering Services.
The event will take place on 9 November 2024 at the Alice Springs Convention Centre.
Nominations close 14 August 2024 with submissions due 4 September.
