NT Tourism will be hijacking an interstate event in a bid to capture the interest of thousands ahead of the upcoming dry season.
In Adelaide, advertisements have been strategically placed across airports, the CBD and sporting venues as AFL teams and fans arrive in South Australia this week for Gather Round.
Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade acting chief executive Scott Lovett said the guerrilla marketing activities would reach the eyes of millions of South Australians and travellers in the next week.
“Our clever marketing campaigns will grab footy-fans’ attention who have travelled from across the nation to the event and showcase the Territory’s stunning experiences and landscapes in ways that get people talking and inspired to travel to the NT,” he said.
Last year, NT Tourism conducted a similar tactic when it hijacked Vivid Sydney for advertising purposes – a move Mr Lovett does not apologise for.
“By placing clever advertising at national sporting and cultural events that Aussies are passionate about, we ensure the Territory gets the attention it deserves as Australia’s best and most unique holiday destination.”
The Gather Round marketing will encourage travelling football fans to book their NT trip via a digital re-targeting campaign between April 4 to10, offering up to a 30 per cent discount.
NT Tourism also reaffirmed its continued collaboration with Tiwi Islander and AFL player Daniel Rioli who serves as an ambassador for the NT.
