New national data has shone a light on how many students Territory teachers are juggling, with pupil to educator ratios revealed right across NT schools.
Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority 2021 statistics show Nightcliff Primary School had a higher ratio than any other Darwin school at 16.8 students per teacher.
However, this was significantly better than Alice Springs’ highest ratio of 20 students per teacher at both Wallace Rockhole and Willowra schools.
Palmerston’s least crowded school was Woodroffe Primary with an average of 9.6 students per teacher, while its most crowded was Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School at 19.8 pupils for every teacher.
SCROLL FOR THE FULL LIST
In the rural and remote category, Bulman School - about 300km east of Katherine - had the highest student to teacher ratio with 59 enrolled students and just two full-time equivalent teachers.
The good news is about two-thirds of Territory schools, both primary and secondary, were below the national student-teacher ratio of 14.5 and 11.9 respectively.
Across the country Catholic schools had the highest national ratios for primary schools with a 15.4 ratio, followed by 14.4 for state schools and 14 for independent schools.
At the secondary school level, state schools had the highest ratio with 12.4, followed by Catholic with 12.2 and 10.5 for independent.
Student-teacher ratios do not take into account teacher aides or non-teaching staff at schools, only the full-time equivalent teachers.
