A Central Australian not-for-profit arts organisation will be one of many Territory businesses to get an economic boost under a new grants program.

Red Hot Arts is an Alice Springs artist collective that runs events such as Desert Festival, Bush Foods Festival and Alice Springs Street Art Festival.

General manager Angie Stahl said the group welcomed the government’s five-year investment in companies like hers.

“This funding enables organisations like ours to deliver programs that support local artists and arts workers, develop regional capacity and skills, and provide ongoing employment for people in the arts,” she said.

“There is demonstrated evidence of the arts delivering positive and sustained health and wellbeing, social, cultural, and economic outcomes; as well as facilitating community engagement, empowerment, and social inclusion.”

Arts organisations can now apply for grants of up to $250,000 thanks to a new $23 million program aimed at funding arts in the Territory.

The five-year program will secure funding for arts organisations with a track record of delivering “innovative projects” and “high quality programs and services”.

Established arts organisations can apply for a grant of up to $250,000 under the Leading Arts category and small arts organisations can apply for a grant of up to $50,000 under the Key Arts Organisation category.

Currently, 23 arts organisations are funded under the NT’s five-year program, which provides employment to more than 3,000 artists and delivers programs and services to around two million people.

“The Territory Labor Government recognises the crucial role that arts organisations play in fostering creativity, diversity, and cultural expression,” Arts Minister Chansey Paech said.
