A Liverpool resident who witnessed the death of the young motorcyclist has said she is traumatised after watching him crash after a police chase.
The man died after a police pursuit in Liverpool at around 2 AM on Saturday, sparking a critical incident investigation.
Officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command attempted to stop a motorcycle travelling southbound on the Hume Highway at Liverpool just before 2 am on Saturday.
They pursued the bike after the rider failed to stop, but police terminated the pursuit on Flowerdale Road due to safety concerns.
A short time later, the motorcycle was located on Flowerdale Road after crashing into a parked car.
Paramedics treated the man, however he died at the scene.
One woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, heard the crash in the early hours of the morning and raced outside where she witnessed the carnage.
“It’s emotional. As a community member, seeing this… because now his family have lost him,” she said.
“I wanted to help, I wish I could have. Maybe he would still be here,” she said.
“I don’t even want to drive my car anymore, I normally park my car there (in the spot where it happened),” she said.
A crime scene was established, with specialist officers from Crash Investigation Unit attending to examine the scene.
The investigation will be subject to an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
