A man is dead and two other people have been rushed to hospital after a gruesome three-car crash in Sydney’s west.

Police said the three vehicles ploughed into each other along Canterbury Rd in Roselands about 6.20pm on Monday.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command arrived and found a silver Ford Laser sedan, which was heading west on Canterbury Rd, had collided with a silver Toyota RAV4, which was travelling from the opposite direction.

A third vehicle – a silver Honda Jazz sedan, which was also travelling in the eastbound lanes – was struck by the two other cars.

Paramedics rushed to help, but one male driver was trapped in his vehicle and was declared dead at the scene.

Despite the efforts of first responders, the driver of the Ford Laser, who is believed to be a 36-year-old man, died at the scene.

The two other drivers – a 63-year-old man who was behind the wheel of the RAV4 and a 35-year-old woman who drove the Honda – were treated by paramedics and transported to Liverpool hospital in stable conditions.

Traffic was affected in the area, with the road closed in both directions between Belmore Road and King Georges Road on Monday night until 12:30am.
