If you live along the NSW east coast, it’s a good time to get out the dehumidifiers and rain jackets with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting a wet weekend ahead — and more rain expected into next week.

In its seven-day forecast to Sunday, Weatherzone has reported a possible rainfall total of up to 70mm, which could be as high as 100mm in some coastal areas.

The week has kicked off on a damp note, with light rain and overcast conditions lingering through Monday. Daytime temperatures hovered at 22°C, dipping to 16°C overnight.

Tuesday continued the grey trend, with mostly cloudy conditions and patchy rain, while temperatures hovered around 21°C during the day and dropped to 14°C in the evening.

A brief reprieve came on Wednesday, offering Sydneysiders a glimpse of sunshine as the mercury climbed to a pleasant 23°C, with overnight lows of 14°C — making it the warmest day of the week. However, there remained a 30 per cent chance of showers.

The dry spell will be short-lived. Thursday brings a high chance of showers, most likely from late morning, with up to 9mm of rain forecast.

Friday is set to be even wetter, with as much as 15mm possible and a high chance of rain continuing throughout the day.

The weekend will remain unsettled, with showers likely both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday will see a medium chance of showers and a high of 21°C, while Sunday will be cooler at 18°C, with a 70 per cent chance of showers, most likely later in the day.

The rain doesn’t stop there — early next week looks similarly soggy. Monday is forecast to bring up to 20mm of rain, and Tuesday continues the trend with a 60 per cent chance of showers and up to 8mm forecast.

It comes as parts of NSW are dealing with flood warnings.

Minor flooding is continuing at Fords Bridge Bywash on the Warrego River, with levels expected to stay above minor flood stage until Thursday.

Meanwhile, moderate flooding is occurring at Tilpa along the Darling River, with levels expected to remain high into Thursday. Minor flooding is continuing at Wilcannia, where the river could rise to around 9.50 metres between May 19–21. Flooding is not expected further downstream at Menindee Town.

Authorities are urging people to avoid floodwaters, move vehicles to higher ground, and monitor alerts from the Bureau of Meteorology and NSW SES.
