A Central Coast man has faced court after brawling with police, attempting multiple carjackings, and leading officers on a wild high-speed chase through suburban streets in a chaotic sequence of events that later went viral on TikTok.

Gavin Anthony Fitzpatrick, 32, of Gosford, pleaded guilty in the Gosford Local Court to a number of charges which included assaulting police officers, driving dangerously and entering vehicles without consent.

According to police facts, on March 12 last year, officers attended the Bateau Bay Square car park and noticed a black Mercedes with altered number plates. When they looked inside the car, they discovered two ice pipes.

At about 2.45pm, Fitzpatrick returned to the vehicle with his partner. When spotting police, he bolted.

Officers ordered him to stop and drew their OC spray, but Fitzpatrick reached into a black satchel and said, “Don’t f---ing come near me, or I’ll shoot you.”

He then ran across the road towards another car, opened the front passenger door and yelled, “Just f---ing drive.”

As police attempted to remove him from the car, Fitzpatrick resisted arrest, knocking a female officer to the ground before grabbing her shoulders and punching her in the head.

He then struck another female officer to the right ear, causing her to fall to the ground, before fleeing.

He got back into his Mercedes and drove off, weaving through the streets of Shelly Beach and Bateau Bay.

At about 3.10pm, he arrived at a home on Banyan Close, Wyoming, and ran inside, telling his partner the police were hot on his trail.

Court documents state Fitzpatrick told her: “The cops are coming, they’re chasing me, I need your car, I need it now, I’m on the run, I’ll give it back, where are your keys?”

When his partner refused, he pushed her and took her car without permission.

Fitpatrick’s partner is not accused of any wrongdoing.

At 3.12pm, police arrived and, with the assistance of Polair, began tracking the vehicle in the Erina area.

An employee at a business in Erina spotted Fitzpatrick driving a Ute into the car park erratically, mounting kerbs.

A woman, who was in her car with her son, saw smoke coming from the ute’s bonnet. Fitzpatrick then yelled at her, “I’m in trouble, I need you to drive me somewhere.” When she refused, he demanded, “Give me your f---ing keys.”

He attempted to start the car but was unsuccessful, then returned to the ute and drove off.

He came across another car in the Erina Fair car park and tried to open the door, but the driver sped off in fear.

Fitzpatrick continued speeding along Karalta Road, Erina, before entering the Terrigal Glen Retirement Village, driving on the wrong side of the road and nearly colliding with several vehicles.

At about 3.33pm, he crashed into another car before fleeing on foot.

When police caught up with him, he resisted arrest by pushing and punching officers. He was eventually sprayed and handcuffed, then taken to Gosford Hospital under police guard.

He will be sentenced in the Gosford District Court at a later date.
