A huge $34m apartment complex has been approved for a South Coast tourist town, with the developer behind the project saying he wants to see the area transform into a “mini Double Bay”.

Sydney-based developer and Place Studios owner, James Alexander-Hatzliplis, confirmed the five-storey, two building complex at Batemans Bay, has been approval by Eurobodalla Council and NSW Regional Planning Panel.

Lodged in early 2023, the project aims to ease pressure on Batemans Bay’s tight housing market.

“It’s a key project and an opportunity for Batemans Bay to see large, family-centric dwellings and also provide relief to a pressured housing supply,” Mr Alexander-Hatzliplis said.

“The project will represent a new benchmark for multi-dwelling housing in Batemans Bay, with generous layouts, carefully incorporated landscaping, and functional residential amenities making it an ideal location to live, support a family, and retire.”

The development will also feature apartments ranging from three to five bedrooms, along with a 116 space basement parking and three car washing bays.

Mr Alexander-Hatzliplis said the 20 Heradale Pde development was not his only plan for the town, envisioning its transformation into a “miniature Double Bay”.

The Sydney developer could not reveal specifics of other future developments, but hinted at significant structures in the planning phase.

He said the town could soon see major mixed-use developments with a similar aesthetic to Brisbane’s ‘Calile Hotel’.

“It’s a mixed-use, commercial hotel with a very similar aesthetic to the buildings we want in Batemans Bay,” he said.

Construction on the Heradale Pde apartment complex is expected to commence later this year.
