Northern Territory’s Manton Dam closed following crocodile sighting

A popular Top End dam has been closed after a crocodile was seen lurking in the area, with authorities yet to catch to creature.

Manton Dam Recreational Area has been closed after a two-metre crocodile was sighted in the area.

On Monday, NT Parks and Wildlife announced the Top End dam had been shut to the public, with park rangers working to catch the reptile.

“A 2-metre saltwater crocodile has been sighted at Manton Dam Recreation Area,” the statement read.

“The area is now closed for crocodile management – please avoid the area for safety reasons.”

Situated between Darwin and Litchfield National Park, Manton Dam is a popular location for boating, jet skiing and wakeboarding, and even attracts keen fishers.

Park authorities do not recommend people swim in Manton Dam, which has had salties removed in the past.

The dam was also closed in October 2022 and June 2021 after crocs were seen there.
