Manton Dam closed for some water activities after crocodile sighting

A Territory fishing spot is closed to some activities after a crocodile was spotted in the area. Find out what you cannot do until the croc is found.

A saltie has shut down most water activities on the popular Manton Dam.

The confirmed sighting of the “medium-sized” predator has shut down all in-water activities including water skiing, wakeboarding and jet skiing.

But fishing and boating remains permitted.

A crocodile management team moved in to the area to search for the croc.

A Department of Environment Parks and Water security spokeswoman said there was no further information and the crocodile had not yet been caught.

Estuarine predators can range between three to six metres long.

Other waterways that have been subject to recent crocodile sightings including Casuarina Beach, Butterfly Gorge and Nightcliff Jetty.

At Casuarina Beach a saltwater crocodile was seen trying to attack dogs before it retreated to the harbour.

Butterfly Gorge was host to a two-metre saltie that led to the closure of the popular swimming hole.

One man near Nightcliff Jetty was reportedly stalked by a crocodile. He was stuck on a rock bar before authorities rescued the man.

The sightings all serve as a timely reminder to the presence of crocodiles in Top End waters.
