A TOP End croc has come face-to-face with a famous drag queen, as Darwin Pride Festival prepares to kick off.
They could make a movie of this — in fact we did — and call it when Leo met WondaMama as the Sydney visitor took on the Territory’s famous Cage of Death as Leo.
“Absolutely terrifying, I just felt like a piece of meat dangling in the cage,” she said, after coming dace-to-face with the 5.4m saltwater croc.
The classic tourist event is an enrichment exercise for saltwater crocodiles that have been removed from the wild because of menacing behaviours.
Top End Pride will officially kick off on Thursday and run till Sunday promising events for all the family.
This year the festival will also host a number of youth and family events which Top End Pride chairperson Amber Sayers-Hunt said has been driven by youth leaders.
“The young people of the Top End spoke loud and proudly to us,” she said.
“They wanted the march back, they want to be visible, they want to be heard, so it’s great we can offer this again in 2022.”
All events can be found on Top End Pride Festival’s website and organisers said registration is critical.
Pride celebrations: What’s on and where to go in Darwin and Katherine
In preparation for the 2022 festival the iconic Knuckey St rainbow crossing received a fresh lick of paint.
City of Darwin livened up the faded pre existing rainbow crossing on Sunday night, adding a fresh coat of paint to remind Territorians of the events which lie ahead on the calendar in the name of pride.
