A 41-YEAR-OLD woman is in a “critical condition” at Royal Darwin Hospital today after being thrown from a rolling car in Parap overnight.
St John Ambulance operations manager Craig Garraway said two people were taken to RDH after the crash, which happened about 8pm Sunday.
“It was a single vehicle rollover,” he said.
“One woman was ejected from the car as it rolled over.”
The NT News understands a 41-year-old man was driving the car, and failed to slow as he crossed from Stuart Hwy into Goyder Rd.
A Top End Health spokeswoman confirmed today the man was still being assessed and the woman was in a “critical condition”.
She said two people were taken to RDH.
NT Police is urging motorists to avoid the area this morning.
“Traffic diversions are currently in place on the Stuart Highway in Parap following a motor vehicle crash overnight,” it said.
“All inbound traffic on the Stuart Highway is being diverted onto Goyder Road, there is currently one outbound lane open.
“Diversions are likely to remain in place until midmorning. Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route where possible.”
NT Police Major Crash Investigation Unit detective sergeant Micharel Ordelman said investigations would continue throughout the morning.
“Inquiries are being conducted into the status of the people at Royal Darwin Hospital,” he said.
“We’re still investigating but it looks like speed is a possible factor.”
He urged motorists to be vigilant on the roads.
“Be wary of the fatal five,” he said.
“Sobriety on the road, travelling to the conditions, if you’re tired take regular rest breaks but also be aware of the traffic and the flow of traffic.”
