The Bureau of Meteorology has hailed the start of the dry season as cooler weather settles over the Territory.

The Bureau on Tuesday said the “wet to dry season transition” had kicked off across northern Australia.

“During the first week of April the tropical trough has retreated northwards over the Arafura Sea away from the Australian continent as the subtropical ridge has moved northwards,” they said.

“This resulted in drier and cooler weather over much of central and northern Australia as the transition from wet season to dry season conditions commences in the Australian tropics.”

Darwin City and the outer Darwin areas are still forecast to reach the mid-30s throughout the second week of April, but could record overnight temperatures as low as 22 degrees.
