Police arrest five boys while two others remain at large after knifepoint robberies in Palmerston, Malak

Police are investigating multiple alleged knifepoint robberies in the Top End overnight, with five teenagers taken into custody while two other males remain at large.

In the first incident, a woman was reportedly approached by two males when she got out of her car on Palmerston Circuit in Palmerston at about 5pm on Thursday.

One of the males then reportedly produced a knife and threatened the women with it before both males stole a quantity of cash and fled the scene.

At about 7.10pm police received another report that a group of youths had stolen cash and other items from a vehicle on Malak Crescent in Malak before fleeing the scene when approached by the car’s owner.

A short time later, the same group allegedly broke into a home on Sabine Road in Millner where they threatened a man with a knife before stealing his Toyota Hatchback, which was later found abandoned on Rickards Court in Malak.

Members of Strike Force Trident and the dog unit later arrested three boys aged 12, 14 and 14 at a residence in Malak.

Two other boys were also arrested at the same address after allegedly being found in possession of stolen property.

All five boys remain in custody and are assisting police with inquiries with charges expected to be laid later on Friday.

Car crash sparks police investigation

NT Police are investigating a car accident in a Top End suburb.

Police said a red Ford sedan crashed into a white ute while turning left from McMillans Rd onto Matthews Rd about 2pm Monday.

They are most interested in hearing from the driver of a “newer model black car” who was following the Ford at the time of the crash.

Police urged anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to contact police on 131 444 and quote reference number 10408050.

Fire ban issued as Humpty Doo blaze downgraded

A Watch and Act issued for a part of Humpty Doo has been downgraded with a fire ban in place for Monday.

Residents in the vicinity of a bushfire in Humpty Doo were advised to take action as the blaze is being controlled on Sunday morning.

NT Fire and Rescue service issued a Watch and Act for the Doxas Road fire, described as being of “a heightened level of threat”.

The warning was downgraded to Advice level on Sunday afternoon.

Anyone driving near the area are wanted that smoke from the blaze may affect visibility.

The status of the fire is “being controlled” with firefighting crews on the ground enacting strategies to get it under control.

Bushfires NT declared a 24-hour fire ban for Darwin, Adelaide River, Barkly North and Barkly South fire weather forecast areas.

“No person shall light a fire or cause a fire to be lit in the open in the portion of the Northern Territory within the fire ban area,” the statement said.
