A US MARINE in Darwin has been diagnosed with COVID-19 while starting his 14-day quarantine.

The 22-year-old man, who arrived in the Northern Territory on April 12, tested positive to the virus in the last 24 hours.

The patient is mildly symptomatic and is under the care of the AUSMAT team at the NT Centre for National Resilience.

The total number of cases diagnosed in the Northern Territory is 114.

There are currently a total of five active cases in the Territory.

According to Marine Rotaltional Force (MRF) Darwin, the Marine was part of a group of over 170 service members and was the only one to test positive on their quarantine entrance test.

“In accordance with Australian Government travel guidance, prior to entering quarantine, service members are required to take a COVID-19 test administered by Northern Territory Health officials,” MRF said in a statement.

“All incoming service members did receive a negative COVID-19 test in the United States prior to deploying to the Northern Territory.
