A CAR towing a caravan has rolled over multiple times after being pushed off the Stuart Hwy by strong winds in the Barkly.

Southern Watch Commander Shaun Furniss said a car towing a caravan heading south rolled over about 5km north of Elliot on the Stuart Hwy after being pushed over by a gust of wind.
“A gust of wind pushed the Holden utility and caravan to the right into the North bound lane over corrected and vehicle went off the left side of the road down an embankment,” he said.
“The Combination 71 rolled over more than once.”
Snr Sgt Furniss said the driver and passenger were both taken to hospital as a result of the incident.
“(The) male driver sustained a large laceration to his head and the 70 year old female passenger sustained bruising,” he said.

“Both were conveyed to the local clinic and then Tennant Creek hospital.”
Their injuries are not considered life threatening.
