POLICE sniffer dogs have helped track down and arrest a number of people allegedly involved in assaults overnight.

POLICE sniffer dogs have helped track down and arrest a number of people allegedly involved in assaults overnight.

NT Police Northern Watch Commander Greg Pusterla said the patrol dogs and their handlers had managed to locate four people, who were now all in police custody.

“About 7pm, police responded to a report of a female who had been assaulted with scissors in Coconut Grove,” he said.

“Patrol dog Wedge was deployed and he was able to pick up a track.

“He led a kilometre lead which led to the arrest of a 30-year-old male.

“A 29-year-old woman was taken to hospital for treatment.”

Sr Sgt Pusterla said patrol dog Wedge had also been involved in another incident last night and his actions had led to the arrests of multiple people.

“About 9.30pm, police were called to a street in Ludmilla where two men are reported to have been assaulted after reportedly intervening in a domestic violence incident,” he said.

“Patrol dog Wedge again was deployed. He was able to hit a track and track about 650m.

“This resulted in a 26-year-old man, a 33-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman being arrested and they remain in custody.

“Investigations are continuing.”

Snr Sgt Pusterla said a different patrol dog had assisted in locating a man following an assault in Darwin’s northern suburbs.

Once found, the man was taken to hospital.

“About 11pm, police responded to a report of a man being assaulted in a disturbance in Nightcliff,” Snr Sgt Pusterla said.

“Patrol Dog Quake was able to find a person of interest and he was taken to RDH for medical treatment.”

Investigations are continuing.
