THE promise of a laksa, sunset over the water and an outback adventure filled with crocs has put Darwin on the map as one of the top emerging destinations for travellers.

Darwin is 24th on a list of emerging destinations by TripAdvisor – the only Aussie destination to make the cut.

According to TripAdvisor, travellers are drawn to Darwin because of its waterfront dining, crocodile adventures, rich historical experiences and access to the Tiwi Islands.

The top 25 destinations were determined through an algorithm that measured year-over-year save data from TripAdvisor travellers, year-over-year increase in positive TripAdvisor traveller review ratings for accommodations, restaurants and attractions, and increase in booking interest and searches across destinations worldwide.

Top spot was Kaliningrad, Russia.

Sydney residents Glen and Jess Loader and Gold Coast resident Bianca Flanagan can’t wait to get out and see what the city has to offer.

The trio cooled down on Wednesday with a drink at local favourite Hot Tamale.

“Everyone’s being talking about crocs and saying we have to check them out,” Ms Loader said.
