Thousands of Territorians and visitors from afar donned their best outfits for another huge edition of the Darwin Cup.
Whether it was fashion, getting on the punt or just getting out for a day filled with entertainment race visitors piled into the Darwin Turf Club for the biggest day in NT sport.
Early estimations expected about 9000 people to be at the track to watch the high quality racing, or to show off their most glamorous outfits.
At the Fashions on the Field it was Anggie Wibowo who won the overall competition after designing her own outfit with Indigenous designs.
And for her it was the pride of having her own dress win out over other popular designs that she held most dear in the victory.
“I didn’t expect to win, but I try my best to get it done and now to be the winner, I’m so happy,” she said.
“I wasn’t confident because the other contestants all look fabulous, but I’m the winner with my own design.
“To be able to show my design for the competition was the number one reward for me, the prizes are number two.”
Jedda Thompson has been coming to the Darwin Cup for the past three years, and said it was a fabulous event she always enjoyed coming to.
“I’m very excited for Cup Day, it’s always a wonderful day and it looks great,” Thompson said.
“It’s always an amazing event, there are so many people out and about in their fashion and everyone’s in a really good mood.”
Local Matt Reschke has been coming to the Darwin Cup for years and said there was no better place to be on a long weekend.
“It’s one of the best carnivals you can come to, there’s always great people, great colour, great fashion and great memories,” Mr Reschke said.
“They celebrate this as the horse’s birthday and there’s no better place to have it than in Darwin.”
