A motorist, who didn’t want to be named, said it was distressing to see the woman acting to carelessly.

“She was just standing there, looking at the car in front of her,” he said.

“Someone was trying to talk to her, someone was beeping their horn. At that time of day everyone was trying to get home.”

The motorist said he’d seen an increase in this behaviour in recent years.

“The best action to take in this situation is stop your vehicle if it is safe to do so, activate your hazard lights, beep your horn, and call police on 000 if the person does not move on,” he said.

“I wouldn’t recommend exiting the motor vehicle or attempting to direct traffic, as a busy roadway is a hazardous environment and you do not know the intentions of the person on the roadway.”
