THE Australian Federal Police is calling on passengers at Darwin Airport to keep an eye out for criminal activity as domestic air travel picks up again in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The AFP’s Airport Watch program has been rebooted to coincide with “the potential for growth in crime throughout the aviation environment” at Australia’s nine “designated airports”, including Darwin.

With domestic travel likely to continue increasing throughout 2021, the AFP will use Airport Watch to alert the public and aviation workers about what suspicious activity looks like and how to report it to authorities.
Specialist Protective Command leader Linda Champion called on the members of the public to “keep their eyes and ears open as they embark on domestic travel over the coming year”.
“Due to COVID-19 significantly disrupting the aviation industry we believe it is important to prevent any attempts by criminals to exploit the disruption to their own criminal ends,” Cmdr Champion said.
