CLP leader Lia Finocchiaro has remained undeterred in the face of her party losing NT Opposition status to Territory Alliance, insisting it will continue working to support Territorians through these “unprecedented” times.

Ms Finocchiaro held a press conference at parliament on Wednesday following revelations that independent for Araluen Robyn Lambley has joined Terry Mills’ Territory Alliance Party.

It comes after independent for Fong Lim Jeff Collins joined Territory Alliance last week, bringing the party’s total number of seats in parliament to three compared to the two the current CLP Opposition hold.

With the Territory election right around the corner, Ms Finocchiaro said losing Opposition status would not deter her party.

“That changes nothing for the Country Liberal Party,” she said.

“While this does present a challenge, we have come back from many challenges before.

“The CLP is a party that has been around since before self-government and we have faced struggles and challenges just like this one. But like with every good challenge there comes and opportunity.

“We are focuses on what is important to Territorians.

“We are embarking on unprecedented times in the Territory particularly in the wake of coronavirus, with an already struggling economy.

“There is plenty on Territorians minds and that is something we have always focused on.”

CLP president Ron Kelly said he wasn’t fazed by the development.

“I’m not interested in what Terry and Robyn are doing, to be honest with you,” he said.

“I don’t want to go into all the speculation and arguments.”

“Robyn will do what Robyn wants to do. That’s her right.”
