‘They seem to have now a poor financial management record’: union
An internal petition has begun to improve funding at Charles Darwin University and to investigate the institution’s financial decisions.

AN INTERNAL petition has been launched by the National Tertiary Education Union NT division to improve funding at Charles Darwin University.
ABC Darwin reported NTEUNT president Darius Pfitzner said the university’s questionable financial decisions and concern from staff prompted the petition.

“We’re calling to the federal government to improve the funding to CDU, we’re calling to the Territory Government to improve funding,” he said.
“And making a fairly clear call to the council of Charles Darwin University to investigate the ongoing management decisions of Charles Darwin University.
“They seem to have now a poor financial management record as well as a poor strategic decision record.”
Mr Pfitzner said the petition would only be released if 50 per cent of staff signed.
This follows proposed cuts to 13 library jobs at CDU’s Darwin and Alice Springs campuses this week.
CDU Vice Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks maintained the decision would make the university more economical.

“The proposed changes are designed to increase capability in business analysis, technology support, eResearch and copyright, contracts and licensing, and bring the employee profile into alignment with other university libraries,” he said.
