IN just over three weeks these luxury villas at the Airport Mercure will be ready for the public.

The villas with their own private plunge pools are a key part of the multimillion-dollar, world-class destination resort being built next to the Darwin International Airport.

The villas yesterday had their pools laid in place and work is proceeding at a rapid rate of knots turning these villa shells into private luxury accommodation.

The resort Master Plan integrated the two iconic Darwin properties into a single resort with multiple accommodation, restaurant and leisure options.

NT Airports is confident it will give Darwin a leading edge world class resort and the new private villas are just the beginning.

Their rooms have been designed by experienced designers with the height of luxury in mind.

Each will have a private entry foyer leading to high end bathrooms off the bedrooms that have king-sized beds.

From the bedroom is a private balcony with vistas to the individual swimming pools and the adjacent reserve.

With the pools now in, it is expected the villas will be ready at the start of June.

The major redevelopment means Sir Norman Brearley Drive, which currently separates the two properties, will be relocated to allow the properties to become one site.

The road will be replaced by a massive lagoon swimming pool and a new road will be constructed to access the eastern end of the airport, where the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre, Care Flight, Qantas Freight Terminal and others operate from.

There will be significant upgrades to the existing accommodation and facades, and along with the addition of the new lagoon pool, there will be a poolside restaurant and extensive new tropical gardens.

The range of accommodation will be bespoke high end through to family luxury, which will include bungalow retreats with private plunge pools.

Indigenous artwork will provide inspiration for the interiors and external facades.
