AUSTRALIA’S F-35 Joint Strike Fighter has touched down in Darwin for the first time with 10 landing at RAAF base Darwin yesterday.
The fighters are here to join about 40 aircraft and more than 500 personnel from the Royal Australian Air Force deployed to Darwin and Tindal to take part in Exercise Arnhem Thunder 21 this month.
Exercise Arnhem Thunder 21 marks the first major domestic deployment of F-35s in Australia and the first time they have operated over Darwin.
It will also be the first time the F/A-18F Super Hornets, EA-18G Growler and the F-35A Lightning II aircraft have been deployed as a combat package.
Arnhem Thunder will run from May 17 to 15 June.
The exercise will take place mainly over the Mt Bundey Training Area and Delamere Weapons Range, with live fire of air-to-ground weapons at Delamere only.
