Several Victorians attempting to enter the Territory have been handed Covid-19 fines, including a man who tried to use the NT to hop into another state.

A MAN who allegedly tried to use Howard Springs to get into Queensland is one of six Victorians handed Covid fines on Monday morning.

Four Victorian workers were travelling on flights booked by their employers, however no exemptions had been sought and they were refused entry. They stayed the night in Howard Springs while return flights were arranged.

A Victorian resident was fined after he allegedly tried to use Howard Springs to gain access into Queensland. He had not sought an exemption and was refused entry.

Another Victorian was also turned away after trying to enter the Territory without seeking an exemption.

Incident Controller Sachin Sharma said the rules for entering the NT were outlined on coronavirus.nt.gov.au.

“The onus is on the traveller to ensure they have lodged and received the necessary exemptions to enter the Northern Territory,” he said.

“If you don’t have an exemption or you are not a returning resident, you should not be travelling to the NT from a hotspot.”
