THE world’s most considerate thief has been caught on camera entering a Top End burger bar.
CCTV footage shows the man walk into Darwin City business One Burger, which was accidentally left unlocked. The man has a look around and takes a sip of hazelnut syrup, discovering to his disappointment it was not alcohol.
Leaving with dismay and a can of coke, the well-mannered intruder left the popular burger shop unscathed and locked the door behind him.
Although owner Dhanushka Marasingha does not condone anyone unlawfully entering his business, he could not help but laugh and make light of the bizarre encounter.
“Just because a bottle looks like alcohol doesn’t mean it’s alcohol, it was hazelnut coffee syrup and you can see the disappointment on his face,” Mr Marasingha said.
“Then he returns back to the bottle like he thinks it’s Jesus and alcohol will magically appear inside the bottle.”
The footage shows the man opening and closing freezer doors but again is disappointed with what he finds.
“The hazelnut syrup must have been too sweet because he stole a can of coke no sugar,” he said.
Mr Marasingha said the employee who accidentally left the front door unlocked was apologetic but also had a chuckle when their boss eventually sent through the footage.
“Just because we do find it funny doesn’t mean I’m encouraging it, for a can of coke and a sip of syrup, it’s not worth it,” he said.
“A can of coke at my shop is $3. You could work for 15 minutes and buy a few cans of coke with that money, so don’t steal, just get a job.”
