Seabourn Pursuit returns to Darwin home port after inaugural Broome voyage

The ultra-luxury expedition ship, Seabourn Pursuit, returned to its home port of Darwin following it’s inaugural voyage to Broome.
The cruise ship that can carry 264 passengers, as well as the 24-person expedition crew, is built for immersive and adventure travel experiences.
It’s a huge milestone for the NT’s cruise industry with the addition of another route from Broome to Darwin bringing high net worth passengers who will tour the Top End before and after the trip.
The passengers come as a welcome boost for the local tourism industry, as well as retail and hospitality operators.
Seabourn President Natalya Leahy said they were pleased to be visiting Darwin as part of the vessel’s Kimberly season, which involves 10-day trips between Darwin and Broome.
“Our entry into Darwin earlier this month marked Seabourn Pursuit’s first time in Australian waters and a milestone moment for our Kimberley season,” she said.
“The ship will visit some of the world’s more remote destinations and otherworldly landscapes along the way.
“We look forward to connecting our guests with once-in-a-lifetime experiences through the region’s most spectacular sights, guided by our expert team.”
The ship will depart Darwin in August before returning to homeport in Darwin for the 2025 season.
Darwin is also home to luxury expedition ship Silver Cloud from June up to the end of August 2024.
Tourism and Hospitality Minister Joel Bowden said the government was thrilled to welcome the ship back to Darwin.
“Their entrance to the Territory’s cruise tourism market will mean more visitors to the Top End who will the tour the NT before and after their expedition,” he said.
“This is a great outcome with cruise passengers here to dine in our cafes and restaurants, shop at local retailers and of course book tours.
“Darwin and the Top End of the NT has so much to offer whether it’s our authentic Aboriginal culture, military history or checking out our unique flora and fauna.”
A total of 103 cruise and expedition ships are expected to visit Darwin throughout the 2023-24 season, making it the largest Territory cruise ship season yet.
The cruise ship industry is expected to inject a total of $65m to the Territory’s economy in that period.
