A RETIRED Darwin pensioner is shocked but overjoyed after learning he has won more than $410,000 in lotto, and says he hopes to use the money to support his retirement.

This morning the man was thrilled to discover he was $410,606 richer after his ticket in TattsLotto’s Saturday draw was confirmed to be one of 12 division one winning entries across Australia.

It comes after officials with the Lott put out a call for anyone in the NT with a ticket in Saturday’s draw to check their entry, when they were unable to contact the Territory’s only winner because his contact details were out of date.

Speaking to an official with the Lott this morning, the winner said he was bracing himself for some good news.

“I’m at the outlet. I’m sitting down, and me and the staff here are waiting to hear what you’ve got to tell me. I’m ready for some good news!” he said.

“You’re joking! How amazing!

“It’s a beautiful day here in Darwin and now it’s been made even more beautiful by this news!”

Asked how he planned to spend the money, he said he was still overwhelmed by the news.

“I have no idea yet! I’m still in shock! I don’t think the news has sunk in yet!” he said.

“I’m a retired pensioner, so this win will certainly help support me in my retirement.”

The winning ticket was bought at Leanyer Newsagency in Hibiscus Shoppingtown, Leanyer.

Leanyer Newsagency team member Louise Reick said store staff were thrilled for the winner.

“We are so happy for our customer!” she said.

“It was amazing to be able to break the news to the winner and see his shocked but happy face.

“We are so thrilled we have found our mystery winner, and he has been united with this prize.

“We wish him all the very best.”
