Darwinites and residents on the Tiwi Islands woke to the soft sounds of rain yesterday as clouds slowly moved over the Top End.
The city recorded 0.8mm yesterday morning.

Bureau of Meteorology NT forecaster Jackson Browne said a cool push of air was making its way north as a cloud band moved south from above Indonesia.
“The two things responsible for this is the moisture coming down from Indonesia, which is giving us a cloud band, but underneath that we’ve got a south-easterly surge which is quite dry, and the combination of the two factors with the rain coming from the mid-levels and the dry air near the surface is going to lead to some really cold conditions,” he said.

Most of the cool change will be experienced between Tennant Creek and Katherine.
That region is expected to receive three-day rainfall totals of between 20 and 40mm.
Darwin is forecast to drop below 20C for the first time this dry season from Saturday and it will likely run through until Monday.

Natrisha Barnett can’t wait to give her winter woollies a workout when the cold snap comes.
“I will be going camping over the weekend so I’m hoping I can dig out the track pants in the evening and rug up with a blanket,” the Fannie Bay resident said.
